Our history

Powered by CAN founding team members

Powered by CAN (formerly Creative Academies Network) was founded in 2013 with the original focus of delivering support to address gaps in arts and culture educational service provision for young people in schools in Sandwell. We have developed to deliver projects, services and events across the Black Country and further afield, covering cultural and creative industries, health and physical activity, education, employment and enterprise, and community cohesion and citizenship.
In 2021 we reviewed our strategic plans, becoming Powered by CAN. After the uncertainty of the COVID-19 crisis, we have developed our services and expanded not only across the Black Country but more widely both regionally and nationally, taking our place as an Arts Council National Portfolio Organisation in 2023.

Channeling Change!

Our dedication to positive change is reflected through the growth of our company. Powered by CAN creates impact across sectors, tackling a broad variety of issues and challenges through our young person centred practice. This can-do attitude is what carried, fuelled and powered us, as we expanded our vision and services, from tackling shortcomings in the creative education sector, to addressing the wider needs of young people in the Black Country and beyond. Through this journey, our new name and identity was created. We are Powered By Can!
